Sexual Shame

Do you find it difficult to talk about or think about sex? Maybe you struggle to shake the sexual shame you learned growing up. You might notice intrusive thoughts during intimacy, wondering if you’re enjoying it enough, if you’re doing it “right,” or feeling disconnected from your body altogether. For some people, the topic of sex feels so confusing or overwhelming that they don’t even know where to begin.

If this resonates with you, you are not alone.

Recovering from sexual shame can feel like a long and exhausting journey. Messages about sex that we internalize early in life can shape how we view our bodies, our desires, and our relationships for years. These patterns can create anxiety, self-criticism, and difficulty feeling present or comfortable during intimacy.

At A Day in the Life Counseling, we provide a supportive and nonjudgmental space to explore these experiences. Our approach is slow, holistic, and sex-positive. Together, we work toward rebuilding a compassionate relationship with your body, exploring your personal values around sexuality, and helping you feel more grounded and authentic in your experiences.

Healing from sexual shame often involves learning to listen to your body, developing self-compassion, and letting go of the pressure to perform or meet unrealistic expectations. Therapy can help you reconnect with your sense of agency, curiosity, and comfort in your own body.

We welcome and affirm people from all communities, including members of the LGBTQIA+ community. Wherever you are in your journey, you deserve a space where you can explore these topics openly and without shame.

If you are ready to begin healing your relationship with sexuality, we invite you to reach out to A Day in the Life Counseling. If we are not the right fit for your needs, we will gladly help connect you with a therapist who may be.

Are you ready to take the courageous step toward healing?
